Loidis

Shaping the contours of modern ambient and experimental music, Loidis crafts deeply emotive and texturally rich compositions that blur the lines between genres, exploring themes of memory, place and introspection.

Loidis, known more widely as Huerco S., is one of the many artistic identities of Brian Leeds, the Kansas-born electronic musician. Through Loidis, Leeds turns his focus toward the understated corners of dub techno, minimal, microhouse, and deep house, delivering music that feels as intimate as it is expansive.

The Loidis project surfaced in 2018 with the release of the EP A Parade, In the Place I Sit, the Floating World (& All Its Pleasures) on Hank Jackson’s Anno label. The record introduced a sound rooted in subtle grooves and foggy atmospheres, offering listeners meditative rhythms balanced with a sense of movement. Tracks like "A Parade" and "The Floating World" illustrate Leeds's masterful ability to create music that feels both fleeting and eternal, grounded yet unmoored.

In 2024, Loidis expanded this vision with the full-length album One Day, released on the Incienso label. Comprised of eight tracks that draw inspiration from music of the early aughts, the album is a study in sonic restraint and emotional depth, weaving dubby, looping rhythms with micro-ambient backdrops that feel alive with detail. One Day was lauded for its quiet power, earning Resident Advisor’s Album of the Year for 2024 and widespread acclaim from critics and fans alike. Pitchfork described the album as “a reminder that there’s room for subtlety, drifting, and doubt in dance music,” praising its ability to balance introspection with hypnotic groove.

Leeds’s work as Loidis underscores his commitment to exploring the intersection of atmosphere and rhythm, offering a counterpoint to his more ambient-driven Huerco S. and Pendant projects. Across his aliases, Leeds continues to push the boundaries of contemporary electronic music, creating works that invite deep listening and emotional engagement. With Loidis, he carves out a space where dance music meets dream states, a delicate balance of motion and stillness that feels uniquely his own.
